It's time to start calling Vince Wilfork the Defensive Player of the Year!
Vince Wilfork along with the whole Patriots Defensive Line has been making big plays all year. The team has had a few hick-ups along the way, as there is in every NFL season, but none have been the fault of Big Vince. He may be having one of the best seasons ever for a interior lineman in the NFL. This past weeks play against Brandon Moore may be another perfect example of that. As Chris Collinsworth correctly pointed out on Thanksgiving night, it was very Hall of Fame like!
Moore is pissed at Collinsworth??? Maybe he should be pissed at himself, his team or his coach? Hence the reason his team is in such dire straights and his coach is soon to be fired. Yes this all boils down from the TOP, so maybe his coach should be fired at the end of the season. This statement and past statements from this team, and it's coach are indicative of a Coach and a System that doesn't have it's head on straight. As I recently told a "now suspended" Seattle DB, it's not The Patriot Way and it's not the Belichick way and that's what every team is trying to be like or beat. A coach making and allowing these kind of statements while at the same time making bone head decisions (or non-decisions) like keeping injured players on the Active Roster and Non-Injured players off it, (@2:45), needs to go. Why would you expect your fans to be anything but disrespectful to you, when you are disrespectful to the rest of the league. If I was Firemen Ed, I would have retired along time ago, and become a Pats fan...
Big Vince, (Who should be in the running for Defensive Player of the Year), saw Sanchez coming towards the HOLE. It's funny how slow a 16 million dollar Quarter Back/Anchor like Sanchez (8.25Million in 2013) goes when you are in Game Speed as Wilfork was. The only way to fill the HOLE was fill it with the bigger but much more flabbier Brandon Moore. Wilfork who is regularly double teamed wasn't being tag teamed here and was able to abruptly move the dead weight (PUN intended) of Moore into the gap. Sanchez blindly continued into the BUTT of Moore. Something I hear he does regularly, and something a QB with 16 Million in Guarantees can do~what's he care. It was a play that gave new meaning to the Term "Head Butt". Moore's flab vibrated in just the right way to knock the ball from Sanchez's hands. It was a 9.5 on the rector scale of "Butt Cellulite" movement.
What was really spectacular is if you watch the play you can see that Vince was trying to do just that. A subtle glance to his left and back towards Sanchez while engaged with Moore is seen right before he literally throws Moore into the gap, blocking Sanchez and causing the fumble. Hearing Vince speak on Boston's WEEI he admitted it humbly, as he usually does. Saying, "I was just trying to fill the GAP" I went back to the game film. Sure enough if you watch closely, you can see Vince glance LEFT & RIGHT, At the hole and back at Sanchez, right before giving the mammoth push up and under Moore pushing him into the Gap and Sanchez's path.
It was this play and many others like that sent Firemen Joe to the showers also ~ Such a Shame! Collinsworth rightly pointed out that this was a Reggie White type play, Reggie is firmly enshrined in the Hall Of Fame, as Vince should be some day, but for now, How about we settle for Vince Wilfork, Big #75 for Defensive Player of the Year!
