It's time to start calling Vince Wilfork the Defensive Player of the Year!

Vince Wilfork along with the whole Patriots Defensive Line has been making big plays all year.  The team has had a few hick-ups along the way, as there is in every NFL season, but none have been the fault of Big Vince.  He may be having one of the best seasons ever for a interior lineman in the NFL.  This past weeks play against Brandon Moore may be another perfect example of that.  As Chris Collinsworth correctly pointed out on Thanksgiving night, it was very Hall of Fame like!

Moore is pissed at Collinsworth???  Maybe he should be pissed at himself, his team or his coach?  Hence the reason his team is in such dire straights and his coach is soon to be fired.  Yes this all boils down from the TOP, so maybe his coach should be fired at the end of the season.  This statement and past statements from this team, and it's coach are indicative of a Coach and a System that doesn't have it's head on straight.  As I recently told a "now suspended" Seattle DB, it's not The Patriot Way and it's not the Belichick way and that's what every team is trying to be like or beat.  A coach making and allowing these kind of statements while at the same time making bone head decisions (or non-decisions) like keeping injured players on the Active Roster and Non-Injured players off it, (@2:45), needs to go.   Why would you expect your fans to be anything but disrespectful to you, when you are disrespectful to the rest of the league.  If I was Firemen Ed, I would have retired along time ago, and become a Pats fan...

Big Vince, (Who should be in the running for Defensive Player of the Year), saw Sanchez coming towards the HOLE.  It's funny how slow a 16 million dollar Quarter Back/Anchor like Sanchez (8.25Million in 2013) goes when you are in Game Speed as Wilfork was.  The only way to fill the HOLE was fill it with the bigger but much more flabbier Brandon Moore.  Wilfork who is regularly double teamed wasn't being tag teamed here and was able to abruptly move the dead weight (PUN intended) of Moore into the gap.  Sanchez blindly continued into the BUTT of Moore. Something I hear he does regularly, and something a QB with 16 Million in Guarantees can do~what's he care.   It was a play that gave new meaning to the Term "Head Butt".  Moore's flab vibrated in just the right way to knock the ball from Sanchez's hands.  It was a 9.5 on the rector scale of "Butt Cellulite" movement.

What was really spectacular is if you watch the play you can see that Vince was trying to do just that.  A subtle glance to his left and back towards Sanchez while engaged with Moore is seen right before he literally throws Moore into the gap, blocking Sanchez and causing the fumble.  Hearing Vince speak on Boston's WEEI he admitted it humbly, as he usually does.  Saying, "I was just trying to fill the GAP" I went back to the game film.  Sure enough if you watch closely, you can see Vince glance LEFT & RIGHT, At the hole and back at Sanchez, right before giving the mammoth push up and under Moore pushing him into the Gap and Sanchez's path.

It was this play and many others like that sent Firemen Joe to the showers also ~ Such a Shame!  Collinsworth rightly pointed out that this was a Reggie White type play, Reggie is firmly enshrined in the Hall Of Fame, as Vince should be some day, but for now, How about we settle for Vince Wilfork, Big #75 for Defensive Player of the Year!

Welcome everyone to my new Boston Sports Blog; The Sports Huddle ~~ Boston Style!

I wanted to name it that, in honor of my favorite BSP - Boston Sports Personality.  One of the nicest men in sports and someone I was lucky enough to meet on my first visit to Fenway Park.  He was already a hero to me then and I was only a small boy.  He's not a legend in Boston because he was on the Red Sox, Celtic's, Bruin's or Patriot's, but because of how he spoke about them and how he carried himself.  Both "On The AIR" & in person he was always a gentlemen.  It is said that he actually left one of the major stations in Boston (WEEI) over his dislike of the confrontational sports programming, a style that has since become the norm in Boston.  It is a dislike that I and he share.  If you don't know by now I am referring to the great, Eddie Andelman.

I think I may have be born listening to Eddie, because I have just always known of him.  I met him on Lansdowne St at the foot of the Green Monster on my first visit to Fenway Park.  What was he doing?  Well he was walking down the street eating a Hot Dog.  Minding his own business and just taking in the fun.  He was enjoying his Hot Dog, as was evident by his BIG smile.  It was a smile that would come to be synonymous with his name and the Andelman name in general; not to mention the Hot Dog~~~how little did I know!

Well I was a fun loving person too.  Vivacious and talkative, to say the least.  I immediately yelled when I saw him, "Hey!  There's Eddie Andelman!".  His smile got even bigger, he slide stepped to the right 90* and came right to us.  A crowd of about 30 kids; a brave man too, I would say!   As kids would do we started running towards him too and met him half way.  It was like he knew this was a special day for most of us.  His first words, "Hi Kids, are you here for the game?"  He went on to be cordial and friendly; something that I would learn is his way.  We went on to have a great time.  Red Sox won, and we all had a new friend.

The real story is actually a side note; We were a little disappointed that day up until that point, at least I was.  It was what turned out to be my first time in the park to see a game, but it wasn't my first time there.  We were scheduled to attend a earlier game, but it was rained out.  The earlier game was against a more well known team.   The Red Sox were now playing the Texas Rangers, their ACE Ferguson Jenkins was pitching.  The Rangers were a relatively new expansion team and I wasn't impressed.  I also had never heard of Fergie (as we would latter come to know Mr Jenkins) at that time.  So, until Eddie walked up, I was a little glum~~~Eddie changed that!  Some thing he would come to do many times in my life.  I told him how we didn't know any of the Rangers or Fergie.  He explained how great a pitcher Fergie was.  He explained that if any of us wanted to become a pitcher, we might want to watch Ferguson closely.

With that Eddie taught me how to respect the other team.  Before that for me, the other team was someone or something that was a adversary.  You know like the Cowboys and Indians, the other team was always the bad guys.  Well we all know now, that's not always the case, with either the Indians or the other teams.  He also added that the Red Sox, could use a Pitcher like that.  I thought, "Really?"  So, I went up in the stands and I watched my first Red Sox game in person.  I watched that Texas pitcher, Fergie, control most of the game.  It was a great game; did the Red Sox come back and win; nope?

Oh, the Red Sox went out and got that pitcher a short time later too; Fergie would become well known in Bean town, where he played for the nest few years before going back to Texas.  I would come to learn Eddie Andelman knew a lot more about sports too, but he also knew about being a nice person.

His "Sports Huddle" show was my first experience with Boston sports commentators and annalists.  He and it naturally became my cornerstone.  TSH set the bar and is what I use to judge every sports show and personality against.  Let me just say, most don't measure up.

Also I noticed lately that there were many people all over the country using the Sports Huddle name; I wondered if they really knew what it represented?  Too bad I don't have time to check.

However, I have noticed and have pointed out on occasion that the tone of the Boston Media and media "Wanna Be's" seems to always be negative and confrontational.  You know like what's going on now with the Red Sox.  Certain writers are having a field day, or better yet feeding frenzy, because they finally have something to write about.  In my years I have seen too many players run out of town, because of the sports writers here.  I don't have to list them, if you are a sports fan in Boston you know what I mean.  We have seen the sports writers go after players and coaches alike.  R.I.P. Tito!  Good Luck, Paps!  Some reporters report the news, others like to make up or even become the news.  In Boston we seem to have many that think they should be part of the news too.  Maybe, that's what they think will get them to CNN, FOX, ESPN, etc.

Lets face it, the fans well we are all real people.  We know the players and coaches are real people too.  Real people make mistakes, most of the time those mistakes should never be talked about in the news.  Often times these mistakes are minor and have nothing to do with sports any ways.  When you attack a player's on field play that's OK.  If you can do it in a colorful, but not hurtful way that's entertainment.  Lets face it too, as I have pointed out in the past, if you are commenting on anything else, it's basically just the definition of "Yellow Journalism".

What I noticed is, these same writers don't' like it when you point out their weaknesses and call them on their own words.  How do I know that?  Well I have been contacted directly or acknowledged many times when I have done so.  You see they can dish it out, but they can't take it!  You say something to them or about them and they usually take the high road.  I know that as a classic sign of elitism.  That's nothing a real Boston sports fan wants anything to do with.  One thing about Boston fans, we know we are only elite because we have respect and knowledge of the game, not because we are better then anyone else.

We are basically the hard working middle class of america.  What's elite about a Bostonian should be evident to all.  It's that we are usually fairly intelligent, hardworking individuals with a strong since of loyalty.  It's a loyalty we have and show each other, our teams and people in general.  It's a loyalty to respect other people.  Why?  Because if you don't and you're in or around Boston, well you might just get one right in the kisser.  Most Bostonian's grew up together; the rich right along side the working class.  This working class well they respect the rich, but never grovel to them.  The working class here is not afraid to spank those that deserve it rich or poor when they need it.  However, we also know when to respect others privacy too.

The writers don't seem to quite get that, especially the ones that come from beyond the burbs here in Boston or somewhere else altogether.  These writers seem to be looking for a story first, the more confrontational the story the better.  They think that will give them a better chance of getting noticed nationally. It may, but it won't get you endeared to the rough and rugged Bostonian.  It could get you one right in the kisser too.  They should realize here in Bean Town we just want to stick to the facts and not the opinions of some elitist with an agenda.  Most of these same writers don't have an original thought in their brain.  Sure they know how to hits the key's on their keyboard, but not much more.

Let's look at one of the examples I have of such.  I was going over my tweets today and I noticed back in May of 2011, I tweeted that Bleacher Report Columnist Robert Yee, was "a moron" (That's Boston Talk for Stupid).  It was due to his negative column/slideshow on the Patriots coming 2011 season.  He obliged by acknowledging my tweet in a Re-Tweet.  Well lets see who was right, shall we?

His column was based around 7 photos or slides.  The 1st showed Tom Brady and talked about the Patriots leading the league with a 14-2 record in 2010.  It was however laced with negativism.  In bold he hi-lighted the words "Couldn't stop a nose bleed" & "Big Blunder".  He followed by highlighting the names of Wes Welker and Tom Brady?  I guess implying that they would be making some blunders through out the regular season.  How did they do individually in 2011?  Well Brady threw for almost 5300 yards, 39 Touch Downs and Wes caught 122 of those passes for almost 1600 yds; yup they blundered all the way to the SB each with MVP stats.  The 1st high light was linked to a rant video from Jet's LB Bart Scott.  It was the typical angry unprofessional crap that usually comes from any Ryan (Rex, Rob or Buddy) lead team.  The Jets, well they finished like 8-8, lost to the Patriots handily twice; I hear they are getting rid of Scott his year too.  The word Blunder was linked to an interview with Patriots DB Patrick Chung, who had made a mistake during a Pat's loss to the Jets in 2010.  What's interesting to note is the contrast in players; which I think directly trickles down from their coach and organization.  Chung is both humble and respectful, something that wasn't seen in the Jets clip/link and usually isn't.  It's basically the epitome of the big picture too,  It's also similar to what I am talking about in this article.  OK, so slide 1 is done, BostonAL 1 - Robert Yee 0.

Let's go on to slide 2; this one is of  Wes catching a pass against Darrel Revis, something that usually happens allot when the Pats play the Jets.  Revis hasn't made a career playing against Brady lead receivers that's for sure.  Remember how Randy Moss turned him upside down and ran over him in his last game as a Patriot too.  Yee, who is obviously a closet Jet's fan lets face it, goes on to say the Pat's will lose at least once to the Jet's; that never happened either?  The Pats beats the Jets twice in 2011; both by pretty good margins too.  He goes on to say that the Pat's will loose to the Cowboy's in week 6, after a let down from the mighty Jet's; that never happened either?  The Pat's beat Dallas after leading most of the game on another comeback drive by the comeback kid, Brady.  It actually looked like the Pat's were toying with the Cowboy's the whole game.  To me they were looking ahead to the bye week more then at America's team.  He does admit the Pat's will end up 13-3 after getting ran over and spanked by the dream team (Cough)?  He says the Philadelphia Eagles combo of DeSean Jackson, and Michael Vic will run all over the Pat's; that never happens either.  The so called dreamless team never appears all season, the Pat's destroyed and embarrassed the Eagle's all day.  Yee is also obviously a band wagon jumper, (evident by his Eagle's comments).  He got the Pat's record right, but pretty much nothing else; BostonAL 2- Yee (Media Wanna Be?) 0.

Let's go to slide 3.  Here, Yee changes his tune a little.  He speaks favorably of Patriots WR/DB Julian Edelman.  A good choice, but he again shows his lack of understanding of the Patriots and his Football knowledge in general.  He claims Edelman is behind Welker and Danny Woodhead in the depth charts.  OK, everyone in the league is behind Wes, but I don't recall Danny taken any time or snaps from Julian?  Julian's a former college QB and now a NFL tweener playing WR and DB.  Danny's is a RB with 4.25 speed?  OK they are both under 6', that's about all they have in common.  Edelman did have somewhat of a coming out year, but it was more due to his defensive play at DB.  I can't give this one to Yee either, he really just got lucky.  BostonAL 3 - Yee 0, moving on.

Slide 4, Yee goes on to say that the Pat's will beat the Jet's in the playoff's this year and how last years win solidified the Jet's as the Pats rival?  He also mention's he wanted that rival to be the Colt's?  Oh yeah, he also mention's that he was in college during the Pat's Jet's last meeting?  That kind of explains it all, he's not really a long time Boston sports fan, he's just a kid.  He's basically a "new be" speaking out of his "you know what"!  Ah, that's typical of what the Boston sports writers are these days.  They may be grammatically educated, but their sports knowledge is quite lacking.  The rivalry with the Jet's really has nothing to do with sports.  Bostonian's and New Yorker's have and will always hate each other; it's a City thing!  I would hate a New York team if we were talking about Badminton?  The Colt's rivalry has nothing to do with a city; it has to do with greatness!  It goes back to names like, Shula, Unitas and Berry, Grogan and Jones (Rivals in HS too) and now with Peyton and Brady.  BTW: that's a dead rivalry for now too; the Colt's stink!  On to the playoffs comment.  I have one thing to say about the Jet's and the playoffs, PLAYOFFS, WHAT PLAYOFFS, BostonAL 4 - Yeehe 0!  Basically I think that means I win the series/argument, but lets go for the slam dunk!

Slide 5 has Mr Yee, jumping on the media bandwagon again and picking the Patriot's and the Packer's in the Superbowl; gee, that's original?  Well the "bandwagoners" had that half right and so did Mr Yee.  It's his other comments that I think explain more about him; especially if you take the time to go to his B/R bio.  We find that he's a college age person from Quincy; same town I'm from?  Funny, I don't remember seeing him in "The Irish Pub" in NQ or the Presidential Pub in Quincy centre?  Oh, maybe that's due to his age, OK, never saw him at Mr Sub in NQ either.  He says he's a homer and the Pat's D doesn't stink.  Well OK, a real sports fan, even from Mass, knows the Pat's D has stunk for a few years~~~The numbers tell the story.  It doesn't mean you don't respect the players to say this either.  On to his "HOMER" comment, his BIO shows different?  Cut and Paste;

Favorite Athletes;
Andre Agassi, Ray Allen, Roger Federer, Derrick Rose.  WHAT?  Ray is the only one from Boston on the list?  Really, a homer?  I mean, I like Ray and his Mom, but come on, he's not even the best on that/this Celtic's team.  Those other people, well none of them are from Boston?  None of them ever played here?  OK, I get it you're a Tennis fan~~~~really?  Well OK, then how about Martina (I bet he has no idea why I say this or whom the Original Boston Lobster's or their owner's were)?  How about Isner or Shultz?

Moving on, cut and paste,
Most Unbreakable Sports Record:

It would be considered terribly rude for a player to score 100 points in an NBA game, unfortunately.
OK, but how about Russel's 13 Championships or his 8 in a row?  I mean if you really qualify as a homer and not a lamer; that would be more like it.

Ruth or Mays? Mays.  OK, but really I can make the argument for Ruth too.  More HR's, Longer Career, also Pitched; quite well too?  Oh, he played for the Sox and finished in Boston on the Brave's.   I am a homer; I'll take Ruth and curse "No, No, Nanette"!

It would be beating a dead horse (Dead - like Mr Yee's Twitter page) to go on, but there's not a Boston player in the list.  BostonAL 5 - Yeehe 0.

Slide 6, has Mr Yee on the bandwagon again.  He starts out quoting Brady's 2010 states, saying if he comes close to these, he'll win an MVP.  Well really?  TB surpassed them by a 1000yds and didn't win the MVP?  That was really just a completely moronic paragraph.  Also, if you were implying that Brady wouldn't throw for 4000Yds (In this NFL?), when instead he and 2 others threw for 5K+; well you loose again.  BostonAL 6 - Yahoo 0.

Slide 7, (I'm almost afraid too look)!  Oh wait, there is no Slide 7?  This isn't his fault, it's a B/R thing.  Slide 7 takes you to a new story.  As long as it gets me away from Mr Yee; I'll be a happy camper.  I think that's a Slam Dunk!

Hope I never see Mr Yee at Mr Sub, The Irish, or the The Presidential Pub while in Quincy.  You on the other hand, I would love to have a couple with.  I would also like to have one or two with Eddie Andelman some day.  Maybe even a Hot Dog?  I'm in AZ now, so that won't be happening.  If you find yourself in or around Massachusetts then you can possibly have a Hot Dog with Eddie.  You can do it at the 2012 edition of his Hot Dog Safari.  It's coming up on us in just a few days, May 19th, 2012.  It's now hosted by his son's and The Phantom Goumet team.  Where is it going to be?  Well that's just it; it sounds like it's going to be on the very spot that I met Eddie, all those years ago!  It's almost too much to comprehend.  So get out and have a Hot Dog for Cystic Fibrosis with Eddie and the Andelman's.  If you do, mention to him what that spot means to me; see if he remembers that day in

Welcome to the Sports Huddle ~~~ Boston Style!

I am in no way affiliated with Eddie, Dan or Dave.  I'm just a fan!
